Did you ever think of living small? We’re not talking about slightly smaller, but really, really small. You might have heard of the tiny home movement, and there are some that have chosen to live in a home that is less than 1000 square feet, or even less than 100.

The average home here in the US is about 2700 square feet, so for most of us, that would be a major change. You need to think about the necessity of everything that you currently own, and whether you could live without it or not.

So why do people choose to live like that? In most cases it is to simplify their life and have more time for family, friends and hobbies. Others want to be independent, able to live without being hooked up to the grid in any way.

Whatever your reason for such a decision, you will need to be aware of the particular codes that come along with a tiny home. Even though it might look very different from a larger home, it still needs to follow building codes to be a safe place to live in.
